A minimalistic illustration of Daft Punk on the cover of a magazine

Unrealistic realism

The brief in this project was to create a realistic illustration of a living person. I illustrated two living persons — Daft Punk. But in the process of figuring out who to draw, I also had to define what “realistic” meant.

The idea of the illustration is not only to depict two people, but illustrate how the two musicians work together. Dots and lines, empty and filled surfaces, bright and dark colors are all working together to create a dynamic imitating their interconnection and music.

Ultimately I decided it was sufficient to keep realistic proportions in order to call the illustration realistic.
